About Jackets

Jacket blanks span multiple shell types — fleece, nylon windbreakers, polyester softshell, quilted insulated layers, varsity wool-and-leather, and cotton denim. Each shell material dictates which decoration method works.

Embroidery is the primary decoration for most jacket styles. The heavier fabric provides excellent stitch stability, and left-chest or back-yoke logo placement suits the garment's layering function. DTG and DTF work on fleece and cotton-blend jackets for full-color graphic designs but are less common on synthetic shells.

Jackets have heavier construction and different positioning than lightweight apparel. This is a fall-winter category with peak demand in cooler months.

Questions buyers ask

Why can't you DTG print on nylon windbreaker jackets?
Nylon is a synthetic fiber that repels DTG ink — the ink won't absorb or bond. Use embroidery, heat-applied patches, or screen-printed transfers for nylon shell jackets instead.
How does jacket shell type determine the decoration method?
Fleece and cotton take DTG and embroidery. Nylon and polyester softshell only take embroidery or heat transfers. Material compatibility narrows decoration options more than any other category.
Why are jackets predominantly embroidered rather than DTG printed?
Jacket shells are often nylon, polyester, or tightly woven fabrics that resist DTG ink absorption. Embroidery thread bonds mechanically to any woven surface regardless of fiber type.
Can you embroider large back designs on jackets?
Yes — jacket backs provide a large, flat surface for full-width embroidery. Back-yoke placement below the collar seam is standard. Large designs increase stitch count and production time.
How do varsity jackets differ from other POD jacket types?
Varsity jackets use a wool body with leather or faux-leather sleeves. The wool body accepts embroidery but not DTG. Chenille patches are the traditional varsity decoration method.
When should POD sellers list jacket products for seasonal demand?
Plan listings before fall. Jacket demand peaks in cooler months and drops sharply in spring-summer. Lightweight windbreakers sell in transitional weather for a longer window.
Does DTF work on polyester softshell jackets?
DTF adhesive bonds to most surfaces including polyester. It's a viable option for full-color graphics on softshell where DTG won't absorb and embroidery can't reproduce complex artwork.
